Thank you to all the wonderful people who turned up for the CMPA Annual General meeting. You presence was greatly appreciated and we had a good group. Jody Keehan will continue working on our website and Louise Shand is our new secretary. We are delighted to have Louise.
At the recent Early intervention conference held from the 30th March in Auckland, M.P. Tariana Turia said in her opening address, that the workshop that excited her most was “Threading a Life with Music: Musical Parenting in early intervention at the Champion Centre”. She went on to say that “musical play is one of the most significant ways of creating a close bond between parent and child and we really need to focus much more on our children through positive, playful interaction within our society”. This was the only workshop she commented about so we felt very excited about the work we are all doing within our organisation.
Julie Moore and Alison Broom are our Auckland musical parenting members and they were both at the workshop that Dr.Susan Foster-Cohen, Louise Shand and I presented. Alison then came with us to our meeting at the Auckland Rautaukari Music Therapy Centre. We had a wonderful hour and a half with their team and were so impressed with their musical instruments. We found that we had much in common. I am sure it will be a valuable link for Musical Parenting and the Champion Centre. The team there was interested in the whole concept of working with parent and child to build relating and communication through a playful music interactive approach.
We have had our “Sing and Play this Holiday” programme accepted for Kidsfest and our events will be held at Chisnallwood Intermediate and at the Hotel Grand Chancellor during the first week of July. A Musical Parenting workshop has been accepted by the Music’09 Modulations Conference and Julie Gaudin, Jody Keehan and Katherina Cairns will present a 40 minute workshop showcasing musical parenting in action. Although the time frame is short, I know there will be a lot of interest from conference delegates.
A simple and effective Easter finger play song:
“Ten Little Easter Rabbits” to the tune of “Ten Little Indians” Lyrics Julie Wylie
One little, two, little three little Easter rabbits,
Four, little, five little, six little Easter rabbits,
Seven little, eight little, nine little Easter rabbits,
Ten little Easter rabbits standing in a line.
One little rabbit hopped to the side, (hop one finger to the side, hopping to the beat)
Another little rabbit hitched a ride, {make a hitching a ride sign)
All the other rabbits ran away to hide ( hide fingers behind back)
And they all popped out at Easter time (gradually jump them all out in front keeping the beat)
