7.45- 9.00pm    ‘LET’S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING”  A DVD PRESENTATION BY ROSE ROBINSON WITH DISCUSSION ABOUT THE FILM FOOTAGE
Our monthly meeting will feature Rose Robinson a highly experienced early childhood cognitive therapist and psychotherapist who has considerable experience in helping parents with relating and communicating with their child. Rose has been coming to Julie Wylie’s baby group each week for a term filming the babies’ musical responses and looking at musical interactions between parent and child.  She has produced some remarkable footage which should be of great interest to everyone who values the philosophy of musical parenting.

Caring and Sharing
This chant can be used with very young children when playing percussion as it gives them the space to hear their own instrument
and improvise.  For older children  it can be used as an echo opportunity.  It also works well with body percussion.

Rhythm and Beat chant                 by Jody Keehan (2009)
We can feel the rhythm, we can feel the beat,
We can feel the rhythm from our heads to our feet.
(Name) can feel the rhythm from his/her nose to her toes
(Name) can play the (instrument) and this is how it goes.

  • The Big Sing Canterbury is on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th June in the Christchurch Town Hall.  37 choirs from 22 schools will perform.  The Festival concert is on Friday night at 7.30pm.
  • Disney Princess Wishes on Ice is on at the Westpac Trust stadium from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th June. Book at ticketek.
  • NZCT Chamber Music Contest 2009 recall concert will be held on Sunday 21st June, 7pm at the Chapel of the Music Centre of Christchurch.
  • Music09 Modulations - Music Education Conference 2009 will be held from 6th to 10th July at thge Hotel Grand Chancellor in Christchurch.  CMPA will be involved! For more info go to www.music09.org.nz
  • The 8th Biennial Christchurch Arts Festival and Winter Garden hits Christchurch Thursday 23rd July to Sunday 9th August.  Highlights will include ‘The Kreutzer’, and the TVOne Ice Dome, complete with skating rink in the middle of Cathedral Square.  For info go to http://www.artsfestival.co.nz/
