Julie Gaudin’s Corner

Welcome back to Musical Parenting for all those who have paid their subs, and for those that haven’t a gentle reminder that this is your last newsletter you will get before being “turned off” so get your cheque book out and come along to our next meeting. Roger Hamilton will play and sing us through an hour of Ukulele instruction, teach us 3 chords and how to put them with at least 5 songs. I have been to Roger’s workshops before and he always has a little extra something for more advanced players so do come along even if you play a bit. Bring your ukulele or borrow one for the night. If you can’t make it then why not pay your subs from the comfort of your own home using Internet banking.

The day workshop with Soili was very enjoyable. According to a recent survey the Finnish are the happiest and most content people on the planet, and their teachers are the best trained. I think Soili is responsible for both these statistics. I was particularly inspired by how she builds up a song with complex movements from a simple idea, and always follows the speed of the participants. I am using around 80% of what I learnt that day with all the children I teach, I haven’t quite found a niche for the Sauna song yet. Financially it was also a great investment for musical parenting. So many teachers came that we made a reasonable profit which can be reinvested into other workshops and used to buy resources for the library.

We are in the process of lining up more guests for our workshops - so if you know anyone you think would be inspiring and marvelous do let me know.

See you soon

Julie
