Julie Wylie, wife of member John, was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship, for recognition of her outstanding work in the field of music education, music parenting and at early childhood level. She is highly regarded for her work in developmental music therapy for children with special needs. In the citation we heard of the International recognition of her work.
Well done Julie!!!

Congrats!
Julia Mitchell, our newest addition to the Musical Parenting whanau!  Lisa and Tim are thrilled to have their 3rd child.

From Julie
This has been an exciting month for CMPA members. The “Threading the Day with Music” Saturday workshop was a great success and everybody is in for a treat with Kathy Cairn’s presentation for our next meeting on November 19th. She will showcase percussion works with her young students and demonstrate Rondo form from a movement from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”. Everyone enjoyed this so much when she shared this at the above workshop.
Congratulations are extended to Lisa and Tim Mitchell who have had a beautiful little girl Julia Rose. We are all so pleased for your family.
Diana Caldwell has been presented with a Civic award in Oamaru for her services to the community including 25 years of pre-school music classes. Diana would have to be our longest serving music practitioner in this field. Congratulations Diana for all your wonderful work!
Dorothea Banfield has composed two percussion works to be performed by her students from Allenvale Special School at the “Repercussion” December concert depending on parental consent. Louise Shand has just completed her degree in Psychology so we wish her well and look forward to seeing more of her at Musical Parenting. Jody Keehan has been doing a wonderful job with the monthly prematurely born babies’ clinic at the Champion Centre this year. Well done everyone who shares music in the community.
We are going to have a Christmas shared meeting with a shared supper on the 3rd of December so bring all your favourite Christmas carols, ideas and songs. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Musical Parenting workshop that was supposed to be on this Saturday has had to be postponed until next year.   Please accept our deepest apologies.  We will advise the new date as soon as it is set.

Musical Parenting Monthly meeting at the Trinity Rooms on Wednesday 15th October 2008 at 7.45pm will still go ahead as planned.  Luke from Gandharva Loka World Music store will bring a variety of instruments that would be great to use for musical parenting classes, early childhood and music therapy.

Luke has promised to bring a selection of instruments for sale and will accept cheques or cash on the night.  He has beautiful wood block frogs, crickets & crocodiles, shakers, rain sticks, djembe drums.    Please bring your ideas on how to use percussion instruments for a sharing session.

They sell parachutes, hoops, balls, wide variety of bean bags, scraves etc

www.storyresources.co.nz  A wide variety of magnet and felt board rhymes and story props as well as felt boards and finger puppets

www.mainlymusic.org.nz  A variety of puppets, NZ Music Specalists Cd’s and Music books, postage is cheaper and costs can be cheaper than getting direct from individual companys worth a look.  There is an excellent Suize and Phil CD “Get you moving.” This CD has favourite songs from Welcome to Music series which been produced and sold only in NZ through mainly music.

Teaching Ideas
