Workshop postponement & monthly meeting

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Musical Parenting workshop that was supposed to be on this Saturday has had to be postponed until next year.   Please accept our deepest apologies.  We will advise the new date as soon as it is set.

Musical Parenting Monthly meeting at the Trinity Rooms on Wednesday 15th October 2008 at 7.45pm will still go ahead as planned.  Luke from Gandharva Loka World Music store will bring a variety of instruments that would be great to use for musical parenting classes, early childhood and music therapy.

Luke has promised to bring a selection of instruments for sale and will accept cheques or cash on the night.  He has beautiful wood block frogs, crickets & crocodiles, shakers, rain sticks, djembe drums.    Please bring your ideas on how to use percussion instruments for a sharing session.

Early Childhood Resources

The following websites I have found to purchase good quality teaching resources, teaching ideas and adminstration resources.

Resources

www.sportime.co.nz/early-learning.php  You will need to google this address rather than click on it.

They sell parachutes, hoops, balls, wide variety of bean bags, scraves etc

www.storyresources.co.nz  A wide variety of magnet and felt board rhymes and story props as well as felt boards and finger puppets

www.mainlymusic.org.nz  A variety of puppets, NZ Music Specalists Cd’s and Music books, postage is cheaper and costs can be cheaper than getting direct from individual companys worth a look.  There is an excellent Suize and Phil CD “Get you moving.” This CD has favourite songs from Welcome to Music series which been produced and sold only in NZ through mainly music.

Teaching Ideas

www.vosa.org/resources/   The Victoria Orff Schulwerk Association website, has teaching ideas, music, research papers and teaching notes from past conferences and courses

www.perpetualpreschool.com/preschool_themes/topics.html  Teaching ideas, choose a theme for rhymes, songs and ideas

Administration

www.vistaprints.co.nz  Amazing site selling business cards, magnets, postcards, t-shirts, rubber stamps, car magnets, return address stickers and more.  They have lots of free deals where you only pay postage!!! Yes free! they hope you will upgrade or increase your order.  I’ve only brought freebees.

This is a fantastic site as I have designed business cards as concert tickets and postcards as certificates, magnetics as gifts for birthdays for children in my classes and parents of new babies.

Ring me  3321 469 if you want to ask any questions, and quicker ways to get around the website.

Clinton designed and made this sign for  Helen and my music classes, it cost around $300 and has been  a very cost effective way to advertise.

Melanie Koster publishes her first Children’s Picture Book

The Reluctant Little Flower Girl

By Melanie Koster
Illustrated by Jenny Cooper

Five little girls in ribbons and laces, white satin sashes and smiles on their faces. All except one … One flower girl just doesn’t want to be there.
Readers of all ages will be charmed by Melanie Koster’s rebellious little flower girl.
This is a fantastic collaboration between a first-time writer and a seasoned illustrator. Koster’s well-constructed verse creates a lively, humorous story, while Jenny Cooper’s superb illustrations add to the book’s huge character and vivacity.

Copies of the book are available to buy from Melanie or all good bookshops.
